The Wedding Planner is a cute romantic comedy featuring Jennifer Lopez as Mary Fiore, a hardworking wedding planner that never has any time for dating. She loves her career and never thinks twice about what her life is really missing, not even when her best friend points out that Mary hasn’t dated in years. Nor when Mary’s own father points out that it is not right for someone to plan everyone else’s happiness out but her own.
But when Mary has a near death experience with an unbridled dumpster in the middle of the street she is miraculously saved by Steve Edison, (played by Matthew McConaughey), who manages to save both herself and also her shoe after the heel had managed to jam itself into a manhole cover keeping her from avoiding the dumpster’s path. Steve takes her to the hospital where he works as a successful Pediatrician to treat her minor injuries.
After a romantic night at the park, Mary feels her new love life and work life had finally come together. So when her firm offers her a partnership if she takes on a new account, the largest one of her entire career, Mary is all too eager to accept.
Unfortunately for Mary, Steve turns out to be the fiancé of Fran Donnolly, her new client’s daughter. This causes a lot of awkward tension between Mary and Fran’s family, especially every time she encounters Steve. The two try to avoid their feelings for each other in order to proceed with the wedding but Fate has a funny way of intervening even the best-laid plans.
Juggling with the largest wedding of her career and with the idea of being a bride herself puts Mary in a bad position. Ultimately, she must choose which is the most important to her: her career or her own love life.
