Monster In Law | Jennifer Lopez Movies List

The 2005 romantic comedy, Monster-in-Law, was a very funny and entertaining film. The leading roles were Jennifer Lopez as Charlotte (Charlie), Michael Vartan as her fiance Kevin, and Jane Fonda as Viola, the monster-in-law (i.e., mother-in-law to be).

The relationship between Charlie and Viola is tumultuous as they both struggle for the attention of Kevin. Viola is an over-bearing, controlling, interfering mother who cannot seem to cut the apron strings from her baby boy who is a grown man and successful surgeon.

Charlie and Kevin meet in the beginning of the film and quickly become an item and to the dismay of Viola Kevin asks Charlie to marry him. Once Viola learns of the impending marriage she rapidly transforms into the monster-in-law determined to ruin their relationship and push Charlie out of the picture forever.
The series of events that take place are extremely funny and inventive where Viola is doing everything in her power to get rid of Charlie, along with the help of her long-time assistant Ruby.

The on-screen relationship between Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda is great. Once Charlie learns what Viola is up to she stands up to her and shows real backbone.

She gives it right back to Viola but still maintains a certain level of respect because it is her future mother-in-law and the mother of the man she loves. The antics continue right up to the wedding day when Viola shows up to the wedding in a white formal gown. The stand-off, like a gunfight at the OK Corral, is the final straw and Charlie backs down and wants to cancel the wedding realizing Viola will never stop.

It is at that moment that Viola realizes what she's done and how she's acting. She has become exactly like her own mother-in-law that she despises. So the fairy tale ending happens once again and they all live happily ever after. A real life situation such as this may not be so funny, but Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez really pulled it off.
