Jersey Girl is a 2004 movie directed by Kevin Smith, starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez and Liv Tyler.
The story is about Ollie Trinkle (Ben Affleck), a music publicist based in New York City. Ollie was married to Gertrude (Jennifer Lopez) who eventually died after giving birth to their daughter. He had no choice but to go back and move to Jersey where his father (George Carlin) was and tried to ask his father to take care of his daughter so he can go back to work. Since his dad refused the idea, Ollie ended up bringing Gertie (Raquel Castro) to Will Smith's press conference.
Due to the pressure of the artist not showing up in his press conference, the impatient reporters and his fatherly obligations to Gertie, Ollie exploded in front of the press and eventually ended up jobless.
Ollie and Gertie moved back to New Jersey to live with Ollie's father. Ollie had a job as a driver of a street sweeper serving the Highlands municipality. Gertie grew up to be a lovely girl and she loves to live in New Jersey. She loves renting out movies in a nearby video store where they met Maya (Liv Tyler) who eventually was hooked up with Ollie.
Ollie had to choose between his dreams of going back to New York and life with his family and Maya in New Jersey when he had a chance for a job interview in Manhattan. Unfortunately, his interview was scheduled at the same time with Gertie's school presentation which required his participation. He ended up choosing what really counts, which is of course his family.
This movie as most parents will say, is really not a child-friendly movie because there are some scenes and dialogues that are not really suitable for children. It was rated PG-13 due to language, frank dialogue and sexual content.
