Jack is a heartwarming story of a baby born prematurely with an aging disease called Werner syndrome. The story picks up when Jack is 10 years old and has been aging at four times the rate of a typical child. Jack Powell, played by Robin Williams, is only 10 years old but resides inside the body of a 40 year old man.
The only contact Jack has is with his parents and his tutor, played by Bill Cosby. Jack's tutor encourages and convinces his parents to send Jack to public school to try and have as normal a life as possible and foster friendships with children his own age.
Jack attends school and at first is ostracized by some of the children. His peers eventually grow to like him and his first real friendships with children his own age begin.
There are very funny moments in this film and Robin Williams does a fantastic job of portraying a child in a man's body through his innocent mannerisms and thoughts. Jack has a teacher, Miss Marquez played by Jennifer Lopez, who becomes his first crush and he tries to act normal in a 40 year old body and ask her out.
Jennifer Lopez does a wonderful job portraying the gentle and sensitive teacher who has to let him down easily while trying not to break his heart. This film is very entertaining with a great deal of humor as well as many heartbreaking moments.
You cannot easily watch this film and not tear up imaging the life of a child so swiftly taken away by an aging body.
The story ends seven years later when Jack is an elderly man graduating from high school with his four teenage best friends. He delivers the valedictorian speech and reminds everyone how short life really is. He tells them to "make your life spectacular". A tearful and joyful ending to a great movie.
