The 2005 drama movie An Unfinished Life was directed by Lasse Hallstrom a director from Sweden, based on the novel with the same name by Mark Spragg.

The movie Stars Jennifer Lopez as Jean Gilkyson, Morgan freeman as Mitch Bradley and Robert Redford as Einar Gilkyson.

The story is about Finar a Wyoming rancher who lives with Mitch a disabled friend, the neighbor and best friend. Finar must reconcile with jean the daughter in law after showing up with his grandchild at the ranch.

A year earlier a bear took a calf from their ranch, while the two tried to rescue the calf the bear attacked and injured Mitch and escaped. Since Einar was drunk he could not rescue his friend, Einar on a guilt crutch took care of his friend who struggled walking with a cane. Einar gave Mitch morphine injections to deal with the constant pain caused by his wound.

The bear came back looking for food in town. About that time, jean showed up in the ranch. Sheriff captures the bear and jean moves in with the father in law to stay away from Damian Lewis as Gary the abusive boyfriend. Griffin Einar’s son who had moved away married Jean but died in a road accident. This created a lot of tension between Einar and jean as they were both grieving griffin as he did not know how the son had died.

One night Gary comes to the ranch to harass jean, which resulted in the tension between jean, and Einar reaching the brink after a confrontation with Gary. This lead to him demanding to know how his son died, resulting in her moving out. The movie finishes with Einar getting hurt after trying to set free the bear and jean came back to take care of him. The movie is particularly intriguing and exciting to watch.
